College Planning Checklist - Senior Year

August-September

Register for the ACT/SAT if you didn't take it as a junior or want to retake. See Clara for help registering and fee waivers if needed

Look over college applications and make a list of all the components you will need (resumes, essays, recommendations, etc)

Double check your credits with Clara to make sure you are on track to graduate

Attend College Fair in September

Create a checklist and calendar to track important dates and deadlines

File your Free Application for Federal Student Aide (FAFSA) as soon after October 1st as possible - start here

Submit college applications (some deadlines are this early!)

Finalize college essays

Request personal recommendations

Research scholarship opportunities

November-December

Finalize and send in early decision/action applications due before January

Make sure test scores are sent to schools you are interested in

Register to re-take ACT/SAT if needed

Finish college applications due before January

Finish and submit FAFSA

Ask Clara to send your 7th semester transcript to schools you have applied to.

February-May

Acceptance letters and financial aid offers are sent out. Review, compare financial packets, if possible plan a campus visit to your top choice(s)

Keep on top of your classes (if you flunk the second semester, colleges may deny you even if you have already been accepted)

May 1 is when most colleges require a commitment and deposit.

Let Clara know what your final college decision is so she can send final transcripts, immunization records, etc.
